Nature of Walk:  Leaving Tring station we ascend steadily up ‘The Ridgeway’ westwards for a couple of miles to take us into Tring Park. We then follow paths downhill across the park with good views, to cross the A41 footbridge into the old town of Tring. Here we will have a short break with time to visit the quiet memorial gardens with its pond and magnificent Wellingtonia tree. This park was formerly part of the grounds of the Rothchild family mansion nearby. We see some very old buildings in this central part of Tring (toilets close by), with the large church (worth a quick visit inside, if open). On leaving the town, we follow a quiet path along mostly a green wedge northwards to join the Wendover Arm of the GU canal. Then divert round part of Wilstone Reservoir. We’ll eat our picnic lunch in this area and soon after have a tea/toilet stop at Meads Farm Café and Shop. The last part of the walk takes us across flat fields to Marsworth where the Aylesbury Arm joins the canal, which we follow passing Startops and Marsworth Reservoirs to return to Tring Station.
