About Us

St Luke’s Walking Group was founded in 1996 by Lesley Dodd, who had a passion for walking, community, and supporting St Luke’s Hospice. Over the years, the group has grown into a welcoming and supportive community of walkers of all abilities.

Our mission is simple: to bring people together through walking while raising vital funds for St Luke’s Hospice. Through regular walks and our annual multi-day event, we have covered thousands of miles across the UK, all in the spirit of friendship and charity.

Whether you are looking to stay active, meet new people, or contribute to a great cause, St Luke’s Walking Group offers something for everyone.

Training or Social Walks

To help participants prepare for our Annual Walk, we organise regular training walks throughout the year. These walks vary in length and difficulty, providing opportunities for all abilities to build confidence and fitness. However, you do not have to take part in the annual walk to join in, and they can be social walks.

What to Expect:

  • Walks take place on weekends and weekdays in various locations
  • Distances range from short local walks to longer hikes
  • A friendly, supportive atmosphere with experienced walkers on hand to offer guidance
  • A great way to get to know fellow walkers before the main event

Full details of upcoming training walks, including meeting points and times, can be found on our Upcoming Walks page.

Newcomers are always welcome, whether you’re preparing for a big challenge or just looking to enjoy a good walk in great company.
