Hampstead Heath Circular – 26.10.2025

Fourteen walkers (thirteen humans and one canine) enjoyed a glorious walk around Hampstead Heath and Highgate. We were blessed with fabulous autumn weather, sunny and bright and only slightly breezy at the high points – for which the views more than compensated. These superb views contrasted with the many woodland stretches (how can this be in the middle of London?), where trees were displaying stunning autumnal colours, a riot of reds, bronze and yellow displays. Given that the clocks had just gone back, we were too hungry to get to Kenwood for lunch as planned and picnicked at Lauderdale House in Waterlow Park instead. Views from the terraced gardens just as good, coffee better, café much less crowded and an interesting art gallery to browse on the way to the toilets… The final stretch through the streets of Highgate contained some fascinating buildings (lots of blue plaques and one pink one!) set along winding peaceful streets, before navigating the communal bustle of coffee shops, restaurants and antique emporiums of Hampstead on our way back to the station. The rain started as we boarded the train – perfect timing! Many thanks to everyone who came for making it such an enjoyable walk.
