Five of us gathered at the station on a cloudy but dry day and set off through the woods before crossing the Chess and picking up the Chess Valley walk at Latimer House. We followed the Chess to the edge of Chesham and then turned towards Botley and Ley Hill for the lunch stop. We became the Magnificent Seven when Janet and Martin joined us at Ley Hill. Lunch was on the common and Ley Hill and it was decreed that the leader should have the honour of sitting on the throne (please see photo). After drinks in the Crown, we set off towards Flaunden and were rewarded with the sight of 3 Muntjac deer in the adjoining field. At Flaunden we had a short break in the church yard before descending to Latimer, passing the grave of a horse once owned by General Villebois de Mareuil during the Boer War. We then ascended through the woods and returned to the station, somewhat drier when the leader had previously led the walk for the group.
