Wednesday 1 st October began with some raindrops falling from a very
overcast sky, as nine walkers left Amersham station, but our number
increased to ten when we met one more walker in the carpark.
Homemade flapjack was given to all the walkers to encourage them on
the walk. We left Amersham and walked up the hill to Coleshill, our first
village. We continued to Winchmore Hill, where we enjoyed our snacks.
It had stopped raining by this time, and the sun was trying to make an
appearance. From there we passed though Penn Street and into Penn
Woods. Amazingly there was no traffic on the normally busy A404, which
we crossed and walked along and down Toby’s Lane to Little Missenden.
Two very familiar figures greeted us as we entered Little Missenden. We
were all pleased to see Martin and Janet, who joined us for lunch, a
drink at The Red Lion and then walked with us to Amersham. There we
parted company with some deciding to walk straight up the hill to the
station, while the rest of us stayed on to enjoy an ice cream. I hope the
other walkers enjoyed the walk as much as I did – you were such good
company!
