SUMMARY:Bushey to Rickmansworth via Ebury Way and Grand Union Canal and lakes
DESCRIPTION:General Area:  Bushey to Rickmansworth via Ebury Way\, Grand Union Canal and lakes.\nMiles 7 Grade: Easy Moderate\nMeeting Time: 10.15 Meeting Place: Bushey Station\nLeader: Sue Aldridge Mobile: 07713 025494\nTravel: Overground Lioness Line – trains every 15 mins (also some faster NW trains stop at Bushey). or 258 Bus route stops at Bushey Station. Please meet outside the Eastbury Rd entrance to the station.\nNature of Walk:  As one of the early training walks\, it will be an easy\, short and gentle walk along mostly good tracks. We start walking through Oxhey Park alongside the River Colne which forms the Ebury Way route through Holywell towards the Croxley area. We then cross Croxley Common Moor on a good path to the bridges across the River Gade and GU canal. Here we’ll have a short mid – morning break by the lock. (not far from Croxley Stn). Then continue along the canal towpath passing lakes as we approach Batchworth where the R. Chess joins the waterways. We’ll walk alongside Batchworth lake to the Café/toilets at the Aquadrome for our picnic lunch break with time to use the café.. If some walkers wish to take a direct route from here to Rickmansworth Station the total distance will be 6 mls. After lunch (footpaths near the lakes permitting!) we will walk around Bury Lake\, seeing views of Stockers Lake before heading to Rickmansworth Station\, hopefully by 2pm. (Although paths are generally good with some paved\, part of the towpath may be muddy after recent rain with puddles so best to wear walking boots).

SUMMARY:Tring Circular
DESCRIPTION:General Area:  Tring Circular via Tring Park\, Tring\, Reservoirs and Canals.\nMiles: 10.5 miles\, moderate steady pace.\nMeeting time: 10:25 Meeting place:Tring Railway Station – left across footbridge near ticket office\nLeader: Sue Aldridge Leader’s phone:07713 025494 on the day.\nEstimated Finish time 4.15pm.\nTravel:Depart Harrow & Wealdstone 9.51\, Watford Junc. 10.00\, Arrive Tring 10.21\nNature of walk: Setting off along a 2 ml stretch of ‘The Ridgeway’ south west\, we ascend steadily to Tring Park\, then descend across the park with good views across the Chiltern countryside and town of Tring. (we cross 2 high footbridges across the A41 in this section of the walk). The paths are then level for the rest of the walk. We will enter the old town centre of Tring\, originally sited where the prehistoric Icknield Way crossed the Roman Akeman St. The character of the town has been influenced by the Rothchild family who lived from 1872 to the 1940s in Tring Park at the mansion. We’ll have a late morning break in the Memorial Gardens with a chance to look at the small info. boards related to each years events of WW2 (appropriate as Aug 15th marks the 80th Anniv. of end of WW2)\, plus admire the giant Wellingtonia tree. We’ll leave the town centre via Church Square with hopefully a few minutes to have a look in at the 15th century church. (toilets close by). Continuing our walk north through a green corridor pathway leading out of the town to the Wendover Arm of the GU canal\, which we follow a short way through Little Tring towards Wilstone Reservoir. Our picnic lunch will possibly be along this quiet section of canal. (there will be a slight footpath diversion alongside Wilstone Reservoir due to ongoing Works\, so viewing the reservoir will be restricted). Soon after we will have a half hour refreshment stop for drinks etc. at Mead’s Farmhouse Kitchen\, where there is a café\, farm shop and toilets. (possibly allow a little space in your rucksack as you may be tempted to indulge in the farm shop!). Then we cross fields to join the GU canal to Startops/Marsworth Reservoirs\, passing many interesting canal locks on the way back to Tring Station.
